GAHANNA, Ohio - Whitehall and Gahanna police departments have temporarily teamed up to share a 911 center.
While the Whitehall Police Department undergoes some renovations dispatchers from its police department relocated to Gahanna's dispatching facility.
Deputy Chief Ken Bell, with the Gahanna Police Department said the transition was seamless.
"It's a collaboration amongst all of us. It's really probably the very start of what we call metropolitan policing. I mean that's the thing of the future I'm sure. This is just an example of how metropolitan policing can work," explained Bell.
The two departments are on a common dispatch system that the Bexley police department will soon be part of as well.
The Whitehall Police Department is upgrading its facility to provide space and equipment for a third 911 dispatcher, and $40,000 worth of technological upgrades are being made.
The renovation is expected to be complete by next week.
