Herb Harvesting & Seed Collecting 101
Join Rosemary Group members and learn how to harvest and preserve the herbs you’ve been growing while preserving that summer taste for the winter months. We’ll discuss harvesting, drying, freezing and storing herbs using basic kitchen tools and equipment. Learn how to make a simple herb drying rack. Gain information and ideas for harvesting seeds and seed storage.

Join instructors Tom & Patti Miller as they inspire us once again with fantastic tips and an exceptional menu. This fall meal will take only 30 minutes and is sure to please! Menu: Roasted Butternut Squash Salad with Warm Cider Vinaigrette, Linguine with Shrimp Scampi, Pork Tenderloin Diane with couscous and glazed carrots, Risotto with Asparagus and Ham, and Pineapple Upside Down Cake for dessert. Seasonal Eating
In times past, people naturally followed the seasons when choosing foods to eat. Now with modern farming we can have almost any food we desire during any season. Is it really beneficial for us and the earth to eat cold salads in the winter or red meat and hot soups in the summer? According to ancient medicine, such as Ayurveda, our bodies should be in tune with the seasons. Join Health Counselors, Adrienne Raimo and Anne Hartley and learn how to adjust to the pitta, kapha, and vata seasons and be more balanced. Samples and recipes of seasonal foods will be provided.

Whole Food Kitchen: Let’s Make a Meal-

National Herb Day was created and organized by the Herb Day Coalition, a national group of non-profit herbal organizations dedicated to herbal education, research, quality control, plant preservation, and the responsible use of herbs in human health. On the second Saturday of October each year, herbal events take place throughout the nation and the Ohio Herb Education Center has planned a wonderful event for 2009.
Dawn Combs will conduct a farm tour, homemade organic lunch, honey tasting & free wandering – an educational opportunity you don’t want to miss!
Meet at the Herb Center at 8:45am.
