The City of Gahanna is dedicated to serving the recreation and natural environment interests and needs of its
community. Between January, 2005 and June, 2006, the Department of Parks & Recreation, with the support of
Gahanna City Council, undertook the tremendous task of facilitating the development of the Comprehensive Parks
and Recreation Master Plan, which was adopted by City Council on August 7, 2006. This plan was developed through
direct input from the community and stakeholders, and may now be downloaded in PDF format by clicking the links below.

The purpose of the Master Plan is to guide the decision-making process related to programs, policies,
operations, maintenance and capital improvements over the next ten years. The plan was developed with input from
residents, business owners and other stakeholders through an intensive, yearlong information gathering process,
centered around three broad goals;
- Provide park and recreation services that are essential to the livability and economic health of the
community.
- Create a balanced, accessible and integrated system of open spaces, recreation facilities and recreation programs that serve
current and future residents and visitors to the City of Gahanna.
- Develop aggressive and sustainable funding source strategies that support the Department’s capital and
operational needs for providing parks, recreation facilities and programs.
Through this process, six key park and recreation issues were found to be most important to community members. These
are addressed in the Master Plan as Key Areas, and are outlined through Guiding Principles, Objectives, and Action Tasks.
Together these form the framework that will direct the implementation of the comprehensive Master Plan and will help Gahanna
Department of Parks & Recreation keep in line with the department’s vision and mission.
To enhance and preserve parks and recreation services, lands, and facilities through high standards and innovation that positions
Gahanna as a leading community and a great place to live, work and play.
To conserve the natural environment through parks and open space as well as provide balanced, sustainable and accessible recreation
opportunities and facilities.
