Gahanna Parks & Recreation presents The Freebooters at the Friendship Park Gazebo
The Freebooters have played the modern day Pirate hometown Key West Florida. Kevin Burchett, one of the founding members of the Freebooters says "it was a career highlight to play for the local expatriates, The Conch Republic, as Key west Citizens once refereed to themselves". The Buckeye Lake Region, just East of Columbus, held like minded boaters, outdoor diners and sunset watching Margarita fans that embraced The Freebooters laid back sounds. The band had long standing gigs in that area for a number of years.
The Freebooters, is an old term predating the seafaring Buccaneers of swashbuckling fame. The freebooter was a pirate, a freelance pirate that was respected among his peers and worked on what we would call a contract basis, choosing where, for whom and for how long he would serve a particular Captain and his vessel.
The Freebooters play cover songs from the 70's and 80's classic rock genre mixed with acoustical classics from Jimmy Buffett, Van Morrison, Neil Young and Bob Seager. The Freebooters play June 22 at Music In The Park.
