Hello Gahanna! It’s been a busy month, and I’m excited to share all the wonderful work and community events we've been involved in. Let’s dive into the highlights and see how we’re making a difference together!

Getting to Work

Highlights of Actions, Projects, and Initiatives

  • Participated in the final Active Transportation Plan Steering committee meeting and Community Open House to weigh in on the prioritization of proposed projects
  • Led drafting and presentation of a Juneteenth resolution honoring Keena Smith, founder and CEO of the Women's Center for Economic Opportunity
  • Met with instructors from Gahanna Employability and Adult Readiness (GEAR) program at GLHS in preparation for a resolution in July honoring Disability Pride Month
  • Participated in quarterly School | City partnership meeting alongside the Superintendent, Mayor, Council & School Board Presidents, and both liaisons (myself as council liaison to the school board). Topics included community safety, AED accessibility, and mental health
  • Toured construction site at 825 Tech Center Drive, home of new the city's new municipal complex to get a first hand look at progress and to meet with the Elford Construction and MSA Design teams leading the work
  • Did a deep dive into past council meetings regarding energy aggregation in preparation for the 6/24 Committee of the Whole Meeting where we selected a power aggregator

Received constituent communication concerning: 

  • Presence and accessibility of AEDS throughout Gahanna - See 6/3 council meeting recording for further dialogue on this topic.
  • Proposal to redesign the Gahanna flag from The Gahanna Foundation
  • Support for the council's decision not to redesign the existing flag as discussed at the 6/10 meeting 
  • Street sign in need of replacement on Beecher Crossing North. Parks & Rec has been notified and resolution is pending.
  • Support for the city's move towards green energy and SOPEC as our aggregator of choice 
  • Recommendation for unified communications from the city to build resident confidence in projects being done

Recap of community events & activities

6/2: Attended Council President Merisa Bowers' Community Rockstar Event benefiting the Two Fifty Four Teen Center.

6/9: Attended Band Together Central Ohio, a supportive and inclusive open mic night where everyone can participate, regardless of their abilities or challenges. Be sure to check them out the second Sunday of each month at Gatsby’s Bar & Grill!

6/14: It was a pleasure to attend and volunteer at one of my favorite Gahanna events of the year, the Creekside Blues & Jazz Festival, Ohio's longest running musical festival of it's kind.

6/18: Celebrated with our neighbors to the east at Reynoldsburg Juneteenth, a significant event commemorating the emancipation of enslaved African Americans in the US.

6/19: The celebration continued here at home in Gahanna with the Juneteenth Gospel Tribute featuring Gahanna Lincoln High School alum and local musician Hawc Griffin.

6/21: Met new Friends of the Library at a gathering to support and appreciate our local library.

6/26: Attended first ever Gahanna Pride Community Night, celebrating Pride and fostering a sense of belonging and acceptance in our community

Stay informed about what's happening in our community

  • Subscribe to periodic email updates from me and other city communications.
  • Attend meetings. Regular Council meetings are held  on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the Month (or the following Tuesday if Monday is a City holiday). Committee of the Whole meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays. Both meetings begin at 7:00 p.m.
  • Receive agendas for council and board/commission meetings via email. 
  • Watch online. All council and board/commission meetings are streamed lived via the city's Youtube page.
