Anniversary Jubilee Weekend

Mayor's Office

August brings two new exciting opportunities for our residents to grow in their engagement with our community!

Gahanna Citizen's Academy

Gahanna Citizen's Academy

Applications are now open to be a part of the inaugural class of the Gahanna Citizen’s Academy! This 6-week program offers residents a behind-the-scenes look at how our local government functions. The program will be held from 6 - 9 p.m. every Thursday for six weeks, beginning September 26.

Each week, residents will be introduced to a different facet of local government, including public safety, city operations, economic development, planning, and city finances.  The program is designed to increase communication, build positive relationships, connect with residents, and inspire future government leaders and volunteers.  Classes are interactive and will include activities such as touring facilities, trying equipment, demonstrations, and other hands-on fun.

Applications will be open through Thursday, August 15.  For more details and to apply, CLICK HERE.

Strategic Plan

The City of Gahanna is undertaking an effort to create a new Strategic Plan that will guide the City’s future. The Strategic Plan will serve the government organization and community by providing guidance on city decisions and priorities. To ensure this happens, a diverse group of community members will be convened to guide the planning process. The Steering Committee will work closely with city staff, the planning consultant team, and other community members to bring insight and perspective to the planning process. Committee members will be expected to actively participate in committee meetings and help spread the word about the planning effort to encourage further community participation. They also will advise on the Plan’s substance, helping staff and the consultant team to integrate the community’s insights into the Plan.

Applications to serve on the Steering Committee will be accepted through Thursday, August 15. To apply and learn more, please CLICK HERE.

City Council

City Council and the Administration are taking steps to reduce energy costs for Gahanna residents by selecting the Sustainable Ohio Public Energy Council (SOPEC) as the preferred partner for a new community choice energy aggregation program. The City is in the process of becoming an official member of SOPEC, and residents will begin to see information regarding community choice aggregation programing in the coming weeks and months. Keep an eye out for more information.

Engineering

On July 8, work began on the construction of a modern roundabout at the intersection of Taylor Station and Claycraft Roads. The project, which is being funded in part through a grant from the Ohio Public Works Commission, will significantly improve transit through the area, addressing many years of concerns raised from businesses operating in this industrial corridor.  The intersection is currently closed and expected to re-open in early October, weather permitting. Businesses in the area are open and accessible while this work is underway. For additional information, including a map of the posted detour, go to Gahanna.gov.

Flock cameras in Gahanna

Public Safety

The Gahanna Division of Police is installing 21 Flock Safety cameras throughout the City as part of its dedication to public safety within the community.

The Flock Safety cameras use Automatic License Plate Readers (ALPR) which capture images of license plates and vehicles. The computerized system automatically compares the plate numbers to a list of wanted vehicles that have been entered into a crime database. The ALPR cameras then provide real-time alerts to officers when a stolen vehicle or one associated with a known suspect is spotted. The cameras can also help to potentially determine what vehicles were connected to the commission of a crime. Within days of the first cameras being installed, they had already assisted in the identification of a theft suspect.

Purchase of the cameras was approved by City Council as part of the 2024 Capital Improvement Plan. The cameras are being strategically placed throughout the City to maximize efficiency in their use. ALPR devices do not include facial recognition abilities and do not capture personally identifiable information. Data collected by the cameras is stored by Flock and deleted every 30 days. More information can be found at Gahanna.gov.
