mental health

Mental Health Minute from our EAP Provider

We know that many of our employees are facing challenges and stressors that can be overwhelming. Learning to cope with stress healthily can help you become more resilient and lessen the impact of day-to-day stressors. Taking care of your mental health is as vital as your physical health, and managing stress has lasting impacts on both.

In the Moment Stress Relief

When you feel stressed, your body responds by releasing hormones that can increase your blood pressure and raise your heart rate. Healthcare Providers refer to this as the stress response. Relaxation techniques can help your body relax and help regulate your cardiovascular response.

  • Deep Breathing: One of the simplest ways to relax is by practicing deep, focused, and intentional breathing.
  • Meditation: Mediation involves focusing your attention to help calm your nerves.
  • Focused attention: You might focus on your breath, an object, or a set of words.
  • Progressive relaxation: This is another simple technique that you can do anywhere when you begin to feel the effects of stress. Starting with your toes and feet, focus on tightening your muscles for a few moments, and then releasing them. Follow this line of thinking through your legs, arms, hands, etc. to find relief.

cold and flu season

Reminders About Cold and Flu Season

The City of Gahanna follows updated CDC guidelines for the flu, COVID-19, and other illnesses. If you are sick or have a fever, stay home! Communicate with your supervisor or department head regarding your symptoms and needs if you are unable to report to work.

If you test positive for COVID-19, you may return to work after 24 hours fever-free with no medication, but you will need to wear a mask for five days while testing positive to prevent the spread of illness.

If you have the flu, stay home for at least 24 hours until your symptoms are getting better overall, and you have not had a fever without using fever-reducing medication.
