Hello, neighbors! As we move into the final months of the year, I’m excited to share updates on everything from budget season to new projects that make Gahanna a more vibrant and inclusive place. Take a look at what’s happening around town, and I hope to see you at an upcoming event!

Mark your calendars for Friday, November 22!  Join me and Councilwoman Merisa Bowers for her annual Budget & Breakfast meet-up to discuss the budget process, anticipated 2025 spending, and how the Council advocates for our community through the budget. This is a great chance to share your thoughts and learn more about how city resources are allocated!

Getting to Work

Highlights of Actions, Projects, and Initiatives

  • Have been actively reviewing the proposed 2025 budget and asking key questions to ensure we’re making fiscally responsible choices that reflect our community’s priorities.
  • Created a resident-led Juneteenth Planning Committee to explore ways our community can celebrate this significant holiday in 2025.  Initial brainstorming has already taken place and follow-up meetings held with Parks & Rec and Visit Gahanna staff.
  • Attended the Gahanna Energy Plus (Community Choice Aggregation) town hall to better understand residents thoughts, concerns, and support of our sustainability efforts. Additional information regarding Gahanna Energy Plus can be found here on gahanna.gov.
  • Participated in Transportation and Mobility Plan Steering Committee Meeting.
  • Reviewed applicants for Community Reinvestment Area Housing Council (CRA). Interviews with council to take place in November.
  • Participated in Gahanna Jefferson Public Schools Communication Ambassadors meeting.
  • Met with resident to discuss increasing civic engagement among the New American community in Gahanna.
  • Attended the Ohio Municipal League Annual Conference. Sessions of note included one on mental health initiatives in Hamilton, OH.
  • Corresponded with school board President and City Liaison regarding my school board report at the 10/7 meeting.
  • Attended webinar entitled Navigating the New DOJ Accessibility Standards for Public Entities which specifically addresses digital accessibility.
  • Met with Columbia Gas Public Affairs Project Specialist to discuss how they can best serve our community

Resident communications:

  • Concerns about truck traffic on Styler road
  • Opposition to proposed Action Park in McCorkle which has subsequently been cancelled
  • Dog safety concerns near Moss Oak Ave
  • Follow up feedback on sidewalks repairs on Coldwell Court

Recap of community events & activities

10/17:  Featured guest  in Civic Engagement and the Importance of Local Elections, a virtual panel hosted by Emerge, the employee resource group for young professionals at Bath & Body Works.

10/18: Attended PAWS to Walk-a-Thon at Lincoln Elementary which raised over $40,000 for the school.

10/19: Joined the ribbon-cutting for new communication panels at Sunpoint Park, which will support nonspeaking and minimally speaking individuals in fully enjoying our parks.

10/22-10/23:  Attended the Franklin County DEI conference, “Celebrating Differences & Building Inclusive Futures,” focused on developing practical strategies for inclusion and equity.

10/23:  Led a local government lesson and mock elections with Girl Scout Troop 6821.

10/24: Joined the Unity in Light Dashain-Tihar Fundraiser, a fundraiser for Bhutanese Community of Central Ohio (BCCO).

10/26: Attended the GLHS haunted house hosted by the International Thespian Society.

Stay informed about what's happening in our community

  • Subscribe to periodic email updates from me and other city communications.
  • Attend meetings. Regular Council meetings are held  on the 1st and 3rd Mondays of the Month (or the following Tuesday if Monday is a City holiday). Committee of the Whole meetings are held on the 2nd and 4th Mondays. Both meetings begin at 7:00 p.m.
  • Receive agendas for council and board/commission meetings via email. 
  • Watch online. All council and board/commission meetings are streamed lived via the city's Youtube page.
