Gahanna trail in winter

MAYOR'S OFFICE

We are excited to share that the City of Gahanna has earned Gold Plus Equity Champion Status under the Mid-Ohio Regional Planning Commission’s (MORPC’s) Sustainable2050 Program, recognizing the City’s commitment to sustainability and equity. Gahanna earned this status by completing 60 eligible activities across various categories, which included promoting green energy through a community choice aggregation program, enhancing recycling efforts, and advancing sustainable infrastructure such as the upcoming Link to Literacy Trail and the repurposing of an existing building into a new facility that will collectively house police headquarters, city operations, and senior center programming.

Sustainable2050 is a voluntary program presented by MORPC that supports and recognizes the sustainability efforts of its member cities through direct assistance, collaboration, and recognition. Gahanna was one of the first cities recognized by the Program in 2018, when the City earned silver status. Over the past year, the Administration has worked with MORPC to catalogue and identify our current sustainability efforts. This new certification highlights our commitment to protecting our city’s natural resources through strategic investments and innovative collaborations, while continuing to build a cleaner and greener Gahanna for generations to come. 825 TECH CENTER DRIVE

Big changes are taking place at 825 Tech Center Drive, the future home of the Gahanna Division of Police, City Hall, and Senior Center. With structural steel complete, crews have begun exterior masonry work and have begun to enclose the building. Transformation of the building’s exterior will continue over the next few weeks, while interior work will focus on wall framing for public spaces, training rooms, and offices. Stay informed on the project by viewing Council meetings, where updates on the construction timeline and developments are provided regularly. Information on the project and updates can also be found at Gahanna.gov/825/.

MAYOR'S COURT

The City of Gahanna and City of New Albany were recently honored by the Ohio City & County Management Association (OCMA) for their innovative Mayor’s Court project. The OCMA’s Annual Award for Intergovernmental Cooperation was issued to both cities for their groundbreaking approach to shared services in Mayor’s Court operations. This partnership improves efficiencies in court operations, reduces expenses by eliminating overhead and duplicate infrastructure, and increases accessibility to courts, while maintaining a high quality of service.

FINANCE

For the 11th consecutive year, the City has been nationally recognized for its transparency in financial reporting. The Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) once again awarded the City with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting and its Distinguished Budget Presentation Award. These honors highlight both Gahanna's commitment to being good stewards of public dollars and also how well the City’s budget documents clearly communicate and disclose the City’s financial story to residents. The City of Gahanna’s financial publications, including the Operating & Capital Budget and the Capital Improvement Plan, can be found by visiting Gahanna.gov/157/Finance.

PUBLIC SERVICE

Gahanna is now home to a new Sign Shop! Instead of placing orders and waiting for signs to be created, our team can now create them in house, saving both time and money. While most of the signs they produce will be standard road and traffic signs dictated by the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices (MUTCD), they eventually will be able to also focus on replacing older, worn-out signs all around Gahanna, making the City safer, easier to navigate, and even more welcoming.

If you see a damaged or missing sign, you can report it by calling (614) 342-4061, sending an email to SignShop@Gahanna.gov, or notifying us through Gahanna Direct at Gahanna.gov/374/Gahanna-Direct.
