MAYOR'S OFFICE

The 2025 Gahanna Citizen’s Academy wrapped up last month, with 20 residents completing an eight-week program designed to give participants a hands-on, behind-the-scenes look at how their local government operates.

In its second year, the Academy provides participants with an opportunity to engage directly with City leaders and staff, exploring key areas such as budgeting, the legislative process, capital improvements, parks and recreation, economic development, and daily departmental operations that help to maintain Gahanna’s high quality of life.

Program highlights this year included a tour of the 911 communications center, a hands-on look at the equipment and machines used by the Department of Public Service to maintain our streets and waterlines, and an exclusive first look of 825 Tech Center Drive – the future home of the Gahanna Division of Police, Senior Center and City Hall, giving residents a glimpse into the thoughtful planning that will modernize training for police and delivery of services to residents.

Graduates left the Academy with a deeper understanding of local government and a stronger connection to their city. Planning is already underway for the next Academy session. Stay tuned to Gahanna.gov and follow the City’s social media pages for details.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT

Last fall, the City launched "Our Gahanna,” a comprehensive strategic planning initiative designed to define our community’s shared vision for the future. A key component of this effort is updating the City’s Economic Development Strategy, which will guide future priorities and initiatives to support business growth and economic priorities.

As part of this ongoing work, the City recently hosted its 4th Annual Economic Development event, which focused on gathering community feedback for the "Our Gahanna" Strategic Plan and highlighting the role of placemaking - the thoughtful process of creating unique, vibrant spaces where people want to live, work, and visit.

Keynote speaker Josiah Brown, widely known as the New York Sherpa, shared insights on leveraging the visitor economy to strengthen local identity and economic outcomes, emphasizing that successful communities are built around authenticity and a strong sense of place—qualities that not only enhance residents’ quality of life but also draw visitors and investment. Following the event, he led roundtable sessions with local stakeholders to explore ways Gahanna can strengthen its identity and sense of place.

Community input remains vital as the "Our Gahanna" plan continues to develop. Stay engaged and help shape Gahanna’s future by visiting OurGahanna.com for information and updates.

GAHANNA ENERGY PLUS

Beginning with your June meter reading, ALL AEP customers statewide will be impacted by increased capacity charges. The City's Gahanna Energy Plus program has a guaranteed fixed rate of $0.09756 per kWh (100% renewable energy) for the next 12 months. If you are already participating in Gahanna Energy Plus and would like to continue in the program, you do not need to take any action. To be removed from the program, call AEP Energy Customer Care at (877) 648-1937 and ask to be returned to AEP’s standard rate offering ($0.0997per kWh, beginning June 2025). If you are not currently enrolled in Gahanna Energy Plus but would like to opt in, call the number above and ask to be enrolled.

For more information on Gahanna Energy Plus and options for your utility bill, go to Gahanna.gov/CCA/. You can also compare electric rates and suppliers at EnergyChoice.Ohio.gov/.

ENGINEERING

The Department of Engineering is continuing their work in developing a Comprehensive Transportation and Mobility Plan for Gahanna. The Plan, which will be implemented in conjunction with “Our Gahanna,” will shape future decisions surrounding road widths, lane configurations, speed limits, streetscape features (like street trees and enhanced bus stops), and elements that support safe walking, biking, and transit. Get involved by visiting the project website HERE to learn more, and by sharing your feedback on the improvements you would like to see.

825 TECH CENTER DRIVE

Progress continues to advance rapidly on the building, with all exterior metal framing and utility site work now complete. Additionally, all concrete has been poured on the first floor, making it easier to walk through the areas that will soon be the building’s lobby, Council Chambers and more.

You can stay informed on the project by viewing Council meetings, where updates are provided at the first Committee of the Whole meeting each month. Information on the project, including all prior presentations, budget discussions, construction updates and more, can be found at Gahanna.gov/825/.
