September Safety Tips

Back-to-school Season can Impact your Daily Life
Here are back-to-school safety tips:

Driving & Commuting Safety

  • Slow Down in School Zones: Be extra cautious in school zones, especially during pickup and drop-off hours (typically 7–9 a.m. and 2–4 p.m.).
  • Watch for Buses: Never pass a stopped school bus with flashing lights. Be patient—it’s the law.
  • Expect Heavier Traffic: Morning and afternoon traffic often increases during the school year. Plan for extra travel time.
  • Stay Alert, eliminate distractions
  • Adjust Your Route If Needed: If your usual commute passes a school, consider an alternate route to avoid congestion.

Pedestrian Awareness

  • Be Mindful of Crosswalks: More children and parents will be walking, especially near intersections and neighborhoods.
  • Watch for Bikes & Scooters: Children on bikes or scooters might not follow predictable traffic patterns—stay vigilant.

General Awareness

  • Stay Informed About Local Schools: Knowing when school starts in your area helps you anticipate changes in traffic or community flow.
  • Support Local Safety Measures: Be patient with crossing guards and new traffic patterns—they’re there for everyone's safety.
