Crime Victim Resources

As a victim of crime, you have certain constitutional rights.  Some rights are automatic, but most rights require your request.  If you choose to exercise those rights, complete the Ohio Victims’ Rights Request Form. (Marsy’s Law).  Once you have completed the form please return it to Police Headquarters.

  • Civil Protection Orders.  For those related by blood or marriage, have a child in common, or have lived together within the last five (5) years as a spouse, including same-sex couples.  There need not be a criminal case, and the order lasts up to case,5) years.
  • Temporary Protection Orders. For those currently involved in a misdemeanor or felony criminal case.  No relationship is required and lasts the life of the case, expiring upon sentencing or dismissal.
  • Civil Stalking Protection Orders or Civil Sexually Oriented Offense Protection Orders. For those who are Franklin County residents.  Do not have children with the respondent. Have two (2) or more incidents in which the respondent caused you to believe that you are in danger or one (1) sexually oriented offence.
  • Juvenile Protection Orders. For order against those who are under the age of eighteen (18).

The below referenced websites can guide you in determining whether or not a protection order is right for you.  If you are having trouble deciding if you would benefit from a protection order or which one to choose, consult with an attorney.
